TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The NAACP of Terre Haute is calling on the City of Terre Haute to cancel its contract with the Live PD TV show.

The group says that they voted unanimously to express its opposition to the show because it televises individuals at unfortunate and embarrassing moments in their lives in an attempt to exploit their hardships as entertainment. The group says that this takes unfair advantage of them when they are most vulnerable and most in need of privacy.

Mayor Duke Bennett

On Friday Mayor Duke Bennett said that he was disappointed that the NAACP didn’t reach out to him or Chief Shawn Keen to sit down and discuss any issues that they might have. Bennett said that he was caught off guard when he received the letter from the group on Friday asking that the show contracts be canceled.

The NAACP is set to hold a public meeting on Monday at 6:15 in the Vigo County Public Library to hear from others about how they feel about the show.
