Edgar County Woman Dies Due To Exposure, Investigation Continues

EDGAR COUNTY, Ind –  In a press release issued Wednesday  by the Edgar County Sheriff, Edgar County Coroner, Scott Barrett, ruled the cause of death of 46 year old Neva A. Martin, of Paris, was hypothermia due to cold weather exposure.

Martin was discovered dead outside a rural Chrisman residence Saturday morning. Temperatures that morning dropped into the low teens.

911 dispatchers were notified around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020. The caller stated he had last seen Martin shortly after midnight and that he had believed she had left his residence to return home at that time. He said when he woke up the next morning, he had discovered her unresponsive in his yard.

An autopsy was performed Monday morning by Bloomington, Illinois.

Toxicology tests are pending.

Police are continuing their investigation.
