Indiana Minimum Age To Marry Going Up

INDIANAPOLIS – Right now, it’s legal for 15-year-olds to get married in Indiana. A bill headed for Governor Holcomb would change that.

The bill raises the minimum age to get married to 16 and creates new guardrails for 16- and 17-year-olds. Those teenagers wouldn’t be able to marry anyone more than four years older than they are, and they’d have to persuade a judge they’re not being pressured into it.

Representative Karen Engleman (R)

Georgetown Representative Karen Engleman says pedophiles have exploited the lower age, using it as legal cover.
