Vigo County Council has agreed to a $19 hourly wage for jailers. Sheriff John Plasse was seeking $22 an hour. Still, the new hourly rate is an improvement for jail correctional officers who are working under a current base pay of $17.86 per hour. Pay for existing positions is also going up. Sergeants will see an increase to $20.88 per hour, and first sergeants working in the jail will get $24.16 an hour. The county is currently budgeted for 68 correctional officers.
