Bank Robbery Suspect Caught on Interstate 70 in Vigo County

Vigo County Today, at approximately 10:10 a.m. CST, a male subject walked into a bank in Effingham, Illinois, robbing the bank for an undisclosed amount of United States currency.

Illinois State Police issued a dispatch to the Indiana State Police in reference to the description of the getaway vehicle and of the suspect, who was said to be traveling eastbound on Interstate 70.  Sergeant Matt Ames of the Putnamville State Police Post located the described vehicle near the 10 mile marker on Interstate 70.  Sergeant Ames initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle, with the assistant of other agencies.  Immediately after the suspect vehicle had come to a complete stop, the driver was taken into custody and identified as Corey L. Ellerbe, age 45, of Terre Haute, Indiana.

Once it was determined that Ellerbe was the robbery suspect, he was transported to the Vigo County Jail.  Ellerbe is now awaiting extradition back to Illinois.

Investigating officers were Sgt. Matt Ames and Master Trooper Detective Jason Schoffstall of the Putnamville State Police Post, with the assistance of CSI Sergeant Michael Organ.

No one was injured during the robbery.  This is all the information that will be released at this time.
